Introduction to the practice

Laura Dubourjal is a French fashion designer, artist, and facilitator based in the Netherlands. Her multidisciplinary practice moves between clothing, text, performance, and collaborative formats; often using garments, theatre methods, and workshop structures to explore how stories live in bodies, images, and materials.

Raised in a family of actors, Laura draws on theatre as a tool for staging conversation, role-shifting, and embodied reflection. Her work weaves together textiles, voice, and gestures to investigate how knowledge is shared, remembered, or made visible; especially through plant motifs, visual culture, and altered everyday forms.

She is currently the coordinator of the Lectorate Art & Spatial Praxis at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, where she co-develops formats for artistic dialogue and shared inquiry. Recent projects include Tactics of the Plot, developed with Linnea Langfjord Kristensen and Patricia de Vries, which explores narrative structures through collective reenactments and reflective group work.

Alongside her artistic and facilitation work, Laura runs an eponymous independent fashion studio focused on limited-edition pieces that bridge storytelling and material research.

She attended the Audio-visual department (VAV) at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (BA 2018) and the Dutch Art Institute at ArtEZ (MA 2022).

Her work has been exhibited in venues and events such as PuntWG , Oude Kerk Amsterdam, Amsterdam Fashion Week, Eight Cubic Meters Gallery, Kunstcapel Amsterdam, and KunstRAI Art Fair, Kunstinstituut Melly and Central Fies (IT).
She is currently based between Amsterdam and Paris.
